Washington, D.C. – Today, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the following statement after President Joe Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act into law:
“Today in America, many cannot afford a middle-class life. People are working harder than ever, but struggling to put food on the table, afford health care, or keep a roof over their heads. In the wealthiest country in human history, tens of millions of Americans, millions of them children, live in poverty. This tremendous inequality existed before the pandemic, but this crisis has made matters much worse.
“President Biden’s signature on the American Rescue Plan represents a historic step toward bridging our way out of this crisis and building an economy that provides opportunity for everyone, not just those at the top. The expansion of the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit, something I have long championed, will significantly boost incomes for working families and cut child poverty almost in half. This legislation is the most significant investment in American workers and families in generations, but it is only the beginning of our work to build an economy that delivers greater opportunity and security to all Americans.”
