Washington, D.C. – Today, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement on the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy, France:
“Seventy five years ago today, over 100,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy. In the face of unrelenting force, they fought to secure the beaches and turn the tide for the liberation of Europe and mankind. Thousands of Allied troops—including over 2,000 Americans—died that day. To honor their sacrifice, the chapel at the American Cemetery in Normandy bears the inscription: ‘These endured all and gave all that justice among nations might prevail and that mankind might enjoy freedom and inherit peace.’
“Today, we honor the Greatest Generation who led with uncompromised courage and commitment to freedom. We owe them not only our gratitude, but our commitment to the values for which they sacrificed.”
