Washington, D.C. – Today, Colorado U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper welcomed news from the Department of Energy (DOE) that over $50 million will be available for Colorado through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to support DOE’s Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). This investment will help low-income households make weatherization improvements and upgrades to their homes to increase energy efficiency and reduce energy costs.

“I’m glad we secured funding from the bipartisan infrastructure law to help Colorado families make their homes more energy efficient and more resilient to climate change, while improving public health,” said Bennet. “This will help lower energy costs and create good-paying jobs in our communities. I’ll continue working with my colleagues on more ways to lower energy costs for Coloradans.”

“We must lower costs for Coloradans. Thanks to our Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill, more homes will be energy efficient, which will slash the energy bills and fight climate change,” said Hickenlooper, a member of the bipartisan group that wrote the bill.

The IIJA allocated $3.5 billion in additional funding for WAP to help families retrofit their homes with upgrades that will increase the energy efficiency, health, and safety of low-income households and reduce their energy costs. That includes installing insulation, updating heating and cooling systems, upgrading electrical appliances, and taking other common-sense actions that will make homes warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer with less energy usage.

WAP has served millions of households and delivered hundreds of dollars in annual energy savings for Americans. More information on WAP is available HERE. More information on WAP in Colorado is available HERE.
