Washington, D.C. – In a new video, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet celebrated that Colorado families will begin to receive the first monthly payment of the expanded Child Tax Credit (CTC) today. Starting today, eligible families will receive up to $250 per month per qualifying child between the ages of 6 and 17 and up to $300 per month per qualifying child under the age of 6.
“I’ve been fighting for years to make sure that more Colorado families can receive the Child Tax Credit and I am thrilled that President Biden’s American Rescue Plan has made the benefit available to 39 million families across this country this year. As a result, today, Colorado families will begin receiving the first monthly payment of the expanded Child Tax Credit,” said Bennet in a video celebrating the first CTC payments. “This is the most significant investment Washington has made in kids and families in generations. And it’s why I’m doing everything I can to make this change permanent so that you and your family can receive the Child Tax Credit this year and every year to come.”
Bennet has championed the expansion of the CTC for years. In March 2021, President Joe Biden signed into law a one-year expansion of the CTC, based on Bennet’s American Family Act, in the American Rescue Plan Act. This expansion has the potential to cut nationwide child poverty nearly in half this year and benefit 90% of American children.
In his American Families Plan, Biden proposed permanent full refundability of the CTC, as well as extending the enhanced CTC value and monthly payments through 2025. The president also committed to working with Congress to make the full, expanded CTC permanent.
Bennet continues to work with the administration and his colleagues in Congress to ensure the entire CTC expansion is made permanent in the upcoming infrastructure package.

Hello everybody, it’s Michael Bennet.
I’ve been fighting for years to make sure that more Colorado families can receive the Child Tax Credit. And I am thrilled that President Biden’s American Rescue Plan has made the benefit available to 39 million families across this country this year.
As a result, today, Colorado families will begin receiving the first monthly payment of the expanded Child Tax Credit.
Eligible families will receive up to $250 per month per qualifying child between the ages of 6 and 17 and up to $300 per month per qualifying child under the age of 6.
The good news is that if you’ve already filed your taxes for the year, you don’t have to do anything else.
You should automatically receive the first monthly payment in the mail or as a direct deposit TODAY or in the coming days.
If you have children but are not required to file federal taxes, you could still be eligible to receive the tax credit.

Access the Non-Filer Sign-Up Tool if you are not required to file taxes
And make changes to your income, address, bank account, filing status, or number of qualifying children
This is the most significant investment Washington has made in kids and families in generations.
And it’s why I’m doing everything I can to make this change permanent so that you and your family can receive the Child Tax Credit this year and every year to come.
