Washington, D.C. – Today, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the statement below following the Senate’s passage of a two-year budget deal:
“The American people have grown used to hypocrisy from Washington, but this budget deal reaches a new low. When I first came here in 2009, Republicans railed against the rising debt and federal spending, even as our economy reeled and the unemployment rate reached 10 percent. Now, ten years into the recovery, annual federal spending is growing faster than it did during either of President Obama’s two terms. During the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, Republicans used the debt as an excuse not to lift a finger to help working people. Remarkably, they seemed to have forgotten their supposedly principled calls for fiscal discipline now that President Trump is in office.”
Last week, Bennet expressed his outrage over Republicans’ fiscal hypocrisy on the Senate Floor. Watch HERE.
