Washington, D.C. – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet this week voted to repeal the 2001 and 2002 authorizations for the use of military force (AUMFs) in order to push Congress to debate and pass a new authorization for military operations:
“The current authorizations for the use of military force (AUMFs) are not reflective of today’s security environment. Congress must exercise its authority and have a robust debate on our ongoing wars. We owe it to our men and women who continue to lay their lives on the line in service to our country. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee should take up a bipartisan AUMF proposal, such as the one Senators Flake and Kaine put forward.
