Washington, D.C. – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet this week joined 46 other Senate Democrats in introducing new legislation to ensure that coverage for preventive health care services, including breast cancer screening, birth control, and domestic violence screening, cannot be revised or rolled back by the Trump Administration.
“This bill is urgently needed to strengthen key measures in the Affordable Care Act to protect women’s access to basic health care services,” Bennet said. “We must preserve the progress we made under the ACA while also working to fix it in a bipartisan way. Although efforts are underway to take away coverage from millions of Americans, including an Executive Order threatening women’s access to affordable health care, we will continue fighting to protect women’s health.”
Today, 55 million women nationwide have access to birth control, screening and counseling for domestic violence, breast cancer screening, and other essential health care without any out-of-pocket costs due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The Save Women’s Preventive Care Act guarantees women continued access to key services without cost-sharing. Once enacted, this legislation would prevent the Trump Administration from revising or rolling back parts of the Women’s Preventive Services Guidelines.
The bill will guarantee the following preventive services:
• Lactation support and counseling
• Screening and counseling for domestic violence
• Screening for gestational diabetes
• HPV DNA testing
• Counseling on STIs
• Counseling and screening for HIV
• All contraception methods approved by the FDA
• Breast cancer screening
• Well Woman visits
