Washington, DC – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the following statement on the three-year anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that provides deportation relief for children who were brought to this country through no fault of their own and know no other country but the United States.
“In the past three years, more than 14,900 kids in Colorado have benefitted from deferred action, allowing them to focus on working hard in school and giving them hope for their future. These are kids who have been here since they were crawling and know no other home than this country. Deferred action is giving these young people relief and certainty to pursue opportunities that would not have been available to them otherwise.
“This anniversary is also a stark reminder that our immigration system is broken and holding back economic growth in this country. Every day that we fail to enact immigration reform, we jeopardize our economy, our safety, and our communities. Congress should put politics aside and work to fix our broken immigration system.”
