Washington, DC – The Senate today failed to pass an amendment introduced by Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today to protect Medicare for the nation’s seniors for years to come. The amendment to the Senate’s budget resolution would have created a point of order against any bill that would privatize Medicare, cut Medicare beneficiaries’ guaranteed benefits, or raise costs on prescription drugs and preventative care in Medicare. The amendment is co-sponsored by Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI).
“Fifty years ago, Congress made a promise to our seniors that we’d make sure they had access to health care during their later years of life,” Bennet said. “This Senate should have adopted this amendment to guarantee that we will keep that promise. We can’t balance our nation’s budget on the backs of our seniors.”
