Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, a member of the Senate’s Agriculture Committee and a member of the Farm Bill Conference Committee, issued the following statement now that the House of Representatives has appointed members to the Farm Bill Conference Committee:

“Our state’s producers and rural communities are hurting right now because Washington isn’t providing the much-needed certainty and reform that comes with a full, five-year reauthorization of the Farm Bill.

“The Senate bill was written with significant input from Coloradans and passed with broad bipartisan support.  It includes crucial reforms that consolidate and strengthen programs so they work better for our farmers.  Now that the House of Representatives has finally appointed its members to the Conference Committee, we need to work across the aisle and across chambers to produce a final comprehensive, bipartisan bill.  We’re ready to get to work.”

Bennet was selected to be a member of the Farm Bill Conference Committee in early August. The Farm Bill Conference Committee will work out the differences between the Senate- and House-passed versions of the Farm Bill.

As a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Bennet helped write the bipartisan Farm Bill that passed the Senate in June.
