Colorado U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall today welcomed the U.S. Senate’s confirmation of Raymond Moore to the U.S. District Court of the District of Colorado. Moore will replace Chief Judge Wiley Daniel, who became a senior judge on Jan. 1, 2013. The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts declared the vacant seat a judicial emergency following Daniel’s transition due to the large caseload in Colorado federal courts.
“Raymond Moore’s confirmation to the US District Court of Colorado is a great benefit for our state and our judicial system,” Bennet said. “In addition to his broad legal experience and sharp mind, Ray has a commitment to the rule of law and careful, thoughtful judgment that will serve him well on the bench. He will make an outstanding federal judge and will represent our state well.”
“With his confirmation to the U.S. District Court of Colorado, I am pleased Raymond Moore will be able to get to work to reduce the overwhelming caseload affecting Coloradans and ensure the quick resolution of legal disputes,” Udall said. “Mr. Moore will make an excellent addition to the court, and I believe he will serve Colorado well and ensure that Colorado businesses can focus on creating jobs rather than navigating an overburdened judicial system.”
Moore was selected by a bipartisan, 11-member advisory committee formed by Udall and Bennet, and nominated by the White House twice. Udall and Bennet praised Moore’s first nomination in November last year, calling him, “a consummate professional and well respected throughout the community.” They urged the Senate to quickly confirm Moore, citing the need to ensure that Colorado’s courts expediently resolve legal issues and maintain adequate access to our justice system.
Most recently, Moore was the federal public defender for Wyoming and Colorado, a position he held since 2003. A graduate of Yale Law School (1978) and Yale College (1975), Moore worked for Davis Graham & Stubbs from 1978 to 1982 and again from 1986 to 1992, when he joined the federal public defender’s office in Denver. Moore served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Denver from 1982 to 1986.
