Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the following statement on the Senate’s vote today to suspend the debt ceiling through May.
“Today’s vote is more evidence that Washington is the ‘Land of Flickering Lights’ and failing to meet its basic obligations to the American people. Whether it is a short-term extension to fund the government or the Farm Bill or the FAA reauthorization, we are prolonging uncertainty for businesses and families and are hurting the economy. In my conversations with Coloradans all over the state, I’ve been told that they want us to come together to find a meaningful solution to our debt and deficit.
“I voted for this short-term suspension of the debt limit because we have to meet our obligations and avoid plunging the economy into a recession. The time is now to work in a bipartisan way to make the tough decisions that will put us on a path to long-term fiscal health and help ensure that we are providing our kids and grandkids with every opportunity.”
