Washington, DC – Following a Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security hearing on “The Economic Imperative for Enacting Immigration Reform,” Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today released the following statement.

“Today’s Judiciary Committee hearing underscored the economic benefits of comprehensive immigration reform. A comprehensive solution will help the economy by turning undocumented workers into legal taxpayers, ensuring that businesses have the necessary skilled and unskilled labor they need to compete and encourage foreign-born entrepreneurs to start new businesses and create jobs here in the United States. A key part of a comprehensive bill is the DREAM Act, which would enable some of the best and brightest to serve in the military or attend college and contribute to our economy. Unfortunately, Washington politics and partisanship continue to stand in the way of comprehensive immigration reform. I am committed to working with anyone, from any party, with a genuine commitment in restoring common sense to our immigration system, and to ensuring we are once again both a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws.”
