Washington, DC – On the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, highlighted the need to preserve and protect our land, water and wildlife habitat for the enjoyment of generations to come. To mark the occasion, Bennet cosponsored a resolution commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day and its founder.
In addition, Bennet launched a gallery on his official website with drawings submitted by Colorado kids depicting the need to protect the earth’s land, water and wildlife habitat, which can be accessed by clicking here.
“On Earth Day, we reaffirm our commitment to act as responsible stewards of our land, water and wildlife habitat for the enjoyment of generations to come,” said Bennet. “From Rocky Mountain National Park to the scenic vistas of the San Juans, Colorado is blessed with tremendous natural beauty that is a source of pride for all Coloradans and something we should work every day to protect.”
Last year, Bennet supported passage of the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act of 2009, which, among other things, designated acreage at Rocky Mountain National Park as wilderness, created the Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area, and established the South Park and Sangre de Cristo National Heritage Areas.
Bennet is also an original cosponsor of the San Juan Mountain Wilderness Act which would protect over 60,000 acres of National Forest lands in Southwest Colorado.
