Washington, D.C. — Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet and U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) introduced a resolution to celebrate National Charter Schools Week and commend charter schools for their contributions to education.
“In Colorado and across the country, public charter schools help ensure every student has access to high-quality education to prepare them for future success. National Charter Schools Week is an opportunity to recognize educators and school leaders for their outstanding work and dedication to their students and communities,” said Bennet.
“With a background like I had growing up, I came to understand the power of a quality education. Throughout my time in public service, I have worked to broaden educational opportunities for children, regardless of race, zip code, or background,” said Scott. “I am grateful for the positive strides charter schools have made to shape education in South Carolina and around the nation, and help the next generation achieve their American Dream!”
As a former school superintendent, Bennet has long supported efforts to expand educational opportunities for students across the country. In May, Bennet joined U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-La.) to introduce the Equitable Access to School Facilities Act to make it easier for charter schools to access public property and provide federal grants to states for charter school facilities.
In addition to Bennet and Scott, U.S. Senators Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Jim Risch (R-Idaho), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), John Hickenlooper (D-Col.), Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Tom Carper (D-Del.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Maggie Hassan (R-N.H.), Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Cory Booker (D-N.J.), and Mike Braun (R-Ind.) also cosponsored the resolution.
