Washington, D.C. — In case you missed it, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet helped secure over $91 million for 78 Colorado projects through congressionally directed spending (CDS) in the first round of Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Senate appropriations bills.
“Senator Michael Bennet recently secured nearly $4 million in federal investments for projects in Colorado Springs.
“This will include $3 million for Homeward Pikes Peak ‘The Commons’ Phase Two, which will help construct 69 units of low-income and supportive housing, and $800,000 for the Care and Share’s Southern Colorado Food Bank distribution center renovations.”

“Sens. Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper both successfully earmarked $1.5 million for a stoplight in Bayfield and $3 million for the Rock Creek affordable housing project in Ignacio.
“The two also secured $1 million for vocational training at schools in Pagosa Springs and $2 million for the Moguan Aftercare Housing Facility in Towaoc.”

“A Steamboat Springs engineering plan to extend the Yampa River Core Trail west to Sleepy Bear Mobile Home Park and to create a tunnel pathway under U.S. Highway 40 to the Overlook Park subdivision received notice Friday of the final $1 million in funding needed to move forward.
“The $1 million was part of Senate appropriation bills announced by Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet for congressionally directed spending of almost $130 million in projects across Colorado.”
Westminster Window: Federal dollars are siphoned to infrastructure projects in north metro cities
“A new water treatment plant in Westminster is one the beneficiaries of nearly $6.9 million in infrastructure projects in the north metro area secured recently by U.S. Senator Michael Bennet.
“The new plant, which rests on 40 acres, will reliably provide 15 million gallons of water per day and will allow Westminster to retire portions of the aging Semper Water Treatment facility located off 90th Avenue and Pierce Street, according to the city of Westminster.”
“Senator Bennet secured two million dollars for the I-70 interchange at 29 Road. The funding for the project will go towards building a new I-70 interchange near the Grand Junction Regional Airport.
“Another $1.75 million is going toward the Colorado Department of Transportation for the Maple Street Bridge replacement in Fruita. The current bridge has been deemed unsafe, and the money will go toward upgrades to the bridge.
“The remaining $168,000 is going towards the Riverside Educational Center and the renovation in Grand Junction. The money will allow the Center to complete improvements within the facility. Those improvements will provide after-school tutoring, social and emotional support, career and college readiness courses, and nutritional support.”

“With 120 requests totaling more than $125 million for the state, two entities in Gunnison County, the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (RMBL) and the city of Gunnison, received earmarks amounting to more than $2 million.
“Representatives of RMBL got word last week that it was being awarded almost $1 million in funding to invest in remote sensing imagery data to measure forest and watershed health. This data is expected to be useful in identifying at-risk forests and helping land managers target conservation and treatment efforts early in the detection cycle. The same appropriations cycle also awarded $1.75 million to the city of Gunnison for water treatment plant construction and improvements.”
