Washington, D.C. — Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement after President Biden’s State of the Union address:
“Tonight, President Biden began his speech by calling on the House of Representatives to pass Ukraine aid. Ukraine is out of bullets, and they have earned our support.
“Since Putin started this lawless war over two years ago, the Ukrainian people have sacrificed their lives and won battle after battle against all odds. Without U.S. leadership at this moment, Ukraine is at risk, Europe is at risk, and democracies around the world are at risk.
“We must not walk away from Ukraine.”
Bennet invited Marina Dubrova, the President of Ukrainians of Colorado, a non-profit organization founded in 2014 to unite Coloradans and raise awareness for Ukraine’s cause following Vladimir Putin’s initial invasion of Crimea. The organization provides emergency relief, including medical supplies and aid, to orphanages and schools, and has been instrumental in helping refugees from Ukraine find housing and employment in Colorado. Their work has become more critical since Russia’s 2022 illegal invasion of Ukraine.
