He Will Serve As the New Chair of the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight

Denver — Today, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet announced he will again chair the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry’s Subcommittee on Conservation, Climate, Forestry, and Natural Resources. Bennet will also serve as the new chair of the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance’s Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight.

“Through these subcommittees, Colorado will drive the national debate on two urgent challenges: tackling the threat of Western drought and wildfire with investments in our forests and watersheds, and building an economy that works for everyone with a fairer tax code,” said Bennet. “In the 118th Congress, I will put both subcommittees to work to highlight Colorado’s leadership and continue fighting for our kids, our state, and a strong economy.”

As the Chair of the Subcommittee on Conservation, Climate, Forestry, and Natural Resources during the 117th Congress, Bennet secured $4 billion to address drought in the West, over $10 billion to invest in our forests and watersheds, and over $19 million for conservation and environmentally-friendly farming practices in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and in the Inflation Reduction Act

This Congress, Bennet plans to use his subcommittee to build on his efforts to address the Western water crisis in this year’s Farm Bill by making new investments in farmland conservation, forests, and watersheds, and ensuring USDA programs address the needs of Colorado farmers and ranchers.

As the Chair of the Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight, Bennet will fight for a fair economy and greater opportunity for working families and kids. Bennet’s subcommittee will educate the American people on the harmful effects of the Bush and Trump tax cuts on income equality and the federal debt, identify ways to close tax loopholes that benefit the wealthy, and ensure the IRS does everything in its power to maximize the number of American families benefiting from the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit.

This Congress, Bennet joined the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration to protect our democracy, expand access to the ballot box, and fight the influence of money in politics. Bennet will continue to serve on the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
