Washington, D.C. — Today, Colorado U.S. Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper released the following statements after President Joe Biden announced his nomination of Cole Finegan to serve as U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado.
“Cole Finegan is a tireless public servant, gifted leader, and first-rate lawyer,” said Bennet. “Throughout his career, Cole has displayed tremendous judgement and integrity. All of those who have worked with him know he is compassionate, decent, and committed to the rule of law. I am confident that Cole will serve as U.S Attorney for Colorado with humility and independence, and I will work hard for his confirmation.”
“Cole Finegan is a brilliant lawyer who understands the interface between government and the world it strives to serve as well as anyone I know. He will be fair, just, and dedicated, just as the U.S. Attorney in Colorado should be,” said Hickenlooper.
Bennet and Hickenlooper recommended Finegan for the U.S. Attorney position in February.
Finegan has served as the Regional Managing Partner for the Americas for a global law firm, managing approximately 1,000 lawyers and staff in 11 offices. Finegan also served as the Chief Legal Officer and the Director of Policy and Initiatives for former Colorado Governor Roy Romer.
Earlier in his career, he served as Chief of Staff to a U.S. Representative from Oklahoma. He has served on multiple boards, including the I Have a Dream Foundation, and he helped create Denver’s first Family Justice Center dedicated to fighting against domestic violence. Between 2010 and 2019, and in 2021, he was rated one of the Best Lawyers in America for his work on municipal law. He was also named a Colorado Super Lawyer between 2007 and 2009, and between 2012 and 2018. Finegan was also named a Lawyer of the Decade by Law Week Colorado. He obtained his BA from the University of Notre Dame and his JD from the Georgetown University Law Center.
