Denver – Today, Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet distributed fresh and nonperishable emergency food boxes to families in need with the Food Bank of the Rockies mobile food pantry at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City.

“We are grateful to the Food Bank of the Rockies for all they are doing in this unprecedented time to distribute food to Coloradans in need,” said Bennet. “I was happy to join the food bank’s team of dedicated volunteers not only help out, but to thank them for serving their community during this difficult time. So many Coloradans are finding themselves in a position they never expected to be in as a result of this crisis. Now, more than ever, we must do all we can to help families who are struggling.”

“More people than ever are facing hunger and visiting food pantries, many for the first time. We’re grateful for Senator Bennet’s continued support of Food Bank of the Rockies and his leadership on addressing food insecurity for households in Colorado and across the country. It’s important we all work together to ensure Americans are nourished,” said Erin Pulling, CEO of Food Bank of the Rockies.

According to Food Bank of the Rockies, the organization has seen a dramatic increase in requests for assistance, with more than 30 percent of the people they’ve served this past month reporting they never needed to use a food bank program before. Bennet helped the food bank distribute 300 fresh and nonperishable emergency food boxes to families in need. The fresh food boxes include produce, meat, eggs, and milk sourced from local farmers and growers.
