Denver, CO – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today congratulated Aisha Thomas, Principal of Zach Elementary School in Poudre School District, for winning a 2018 Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership.
Principal Thomas was recognized for her collaborative approach, leading the school from a state ranking of 89th to 13th. More information on Thomas is available HERE. Thomas will join 10 other school principals from the 2018 cohort of National Blue Ribbon Schools to be honored during the National Blue Ribbon Schools awards ceremony on Wednesday, November 7 in Washington, D.C.
“Aisha’s steady vision and strong leadership have created an environment in which students and teachers achieve success together,” Bennet said. “As a former school superintendent, I know we would have been lucky to have Aisha leading in our district. Congratulations, Aisha—our state is proud to have school leaders like you who are setting up the next generation of Coloradans for success.”
“It’s no surprise that Principal Thomas has been recognized for her leadership abilities,” Assistant Superintendent of Poudre Elementary Schools Todd Lambert said. “She demonstrates her exceptional and heart-centered skills on a daily basis for students and staff.”
Named for the second U. S. Secretary of Education, the Bell Award honors school leaders who are committed to education and improving outcomes for all students. The award is part of the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program. Principals are nominated by their school communities during the final stages of the National Blue Ribbon Schools application process.
