Washington, D.C. – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today issued the following statement in response to reports of the increasing number of children—2,342 between May 5 and June 9—taken from their parents at the border:
“The increasing number of children being ripped away from their parents is sickening. Americans of all political stripes have spoken out against this immoral policy. Yet the President and his administration continue to perpetuate falsehoods and blame others for their own cruelty. Their separation policy undermines our most sacred values as Americans, fails to keep our country safe, and causes unnecessary trauma for thousands of children and families. Every member of Congress must stand up for these children by demanding that the administration end its policy now.”
Bennet is an original cosponsor of the Keeping Families Together Act, legislation supported by 48 Democratic senators to end family separation. Last week, he sent a letter with 39 colleagues to President Trump demanding his administration end the separation policy.
