Denver, CO – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today presented certificates to students he nominated to apply to a U.S. Service Academy for the fall class of 2018. The ceremony was held at Eisenhower Chapel in Denver, alongside Col. Kenneth Chavez (Ret. USARNG) and Lt. General Ed Anderson (Ret. U.S. Army).
U.S. Service Academies are federal institutions that prepare cadets to become officers in the U.S. Military, while concurrently earning their bachelor’s degrees. To be considered for admission to a Service Academy, each candidate must receive a nomination from a Member of Congress. Attending one of these institutions is a pledge to build upon the legacy of service, character, and integrity of those who have served our country.
Bennet nominated 40 students from the following communities:
- Colorado Springs
- Parker
- Trinidad
- Boulder
- Montrose
- Aurora
- Grand Junction
- Littleton
- Erie
- Fountain
- Lafayette
- Craig
- Meeker
- Castle Rock
- Kiowa
Bennet’s office received more than 350 applications from students interested in attending one of the following four U.S. Service Academies.
- U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO
- U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY
- U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD
- U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY
Applying to Bennet’s office is only one part of the process. Students must also apply directly to the Academies.
