Denver, CO – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet highlighted his efforts to improve government transparency and public access to information during “Sunshine Week,” a week dedicated to emphasizing how an open government results in more accountability and a better democracy for all Americans.
“Sunshine Week’s mission to highlight open government is more important now than ever before,” Bennet said. “The Trump Administration must commit to transparency and public access to information. Americans need to know the White House is focused solely on their interests and what is best for our country.”
This past week, Bennet:
- Sent a letter to White House Counsel Donald McGahn raising concerns about the national security and foreign policy implications of President Trump’s potential conflicts of interest.
- Sent letters to 16 agencies and the Office of Management and Budget regarding the proper implementation of FOIA.
- Sought an answer to a letter to White House Counsel inquiring whether the Administration would make the White House Visitors Log public.
- Sought an answer to a letter to White House inquiring if the Administration will make available and easily accessible to the public any waivers of President Trump’s Ethics Executive Order requirements.
During Sunshine Week, Bennet also held five town halls across Colorado, fulfilling his duty as Coloradans’ representative to participate in a transparent government and openly answer questions in a public setting.
