Denver, CO – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet announced that six Colorado housing agencies have won a total of $412,668 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Veterans Affairs Support Housing (VASH) program to help veterans and their families access affordable housing.

“We have a responsibility to keep our commitment to our veterans and their families by ensuring they are afforded access to basic necessities, such as housing, education, and health care,” Bennet said. “HUD-VASH vouchers help homeless veterans put a roof over their head, allowing them to focus on other needs. These vouchers are also an important tool to house chronically homeless veterans and create safer and more secure communities for everyone.”

The full list of Colorado recipients includes:

  • Denver Housing Authority partnering with Eastern Colorado Health Care System – $66,240
  • Housing Authority of the City of Pueblo partnering with Eastern Colorado Health Care System and Pueblo Community-based Outpatient Clinic – $48,840
  • Fort Collins Housing Authority partnering with Cheyenne VA Medical Center – $69,600
  • Grand Junction Housing Authority partnering with Grand Junction VA Medical Center – $33,408

The HUD-VASH program is a joint effort between HUD and the Department of Veterans Affairs to help homeless veterans and their families find permanent housing solutions. The program awards tenant-based vouchers to public housing agencies that allow veterans to rent privately owned housing.
