Washington, D.C. – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the following statement on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) final rules for the control of methane emissions from new oil and gas sources:

“We know that reducing methane emissions from the oil and gas sector is important to better protect our air and address climate change. Colorado led the way in 2014 with comprehensive, groundbreaking methane emissions rules that were developed in collaboration with industry and environmental groups. We’re glad that the EPA is following Colorado’s lead and that the final rule appears to be focused on the same proven and cost-effective strategies that Colorado adopted. We will continue to encourage the EPA to recognize Colorado’s leadership and ensure that these regulations are complementary to the steps that Colorado has already taken.”
