Denver, CO – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the following statement today in honor of Martin Luther King Day:
“Today, as we reflect on the dedication, the courage, and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, we are reminded that his message still resonates. At a time when racial tensions are peaking in our communities and our political rhetoric is increasingly partisan and divisive we must remember Dr. King’s message of compassion and unity.
“We are also reminded that his call for peace and justice was echoed in the voice of his wife Coretta Scott King and lives on in the thousands of men and women who have continued to fight for the rights and the advancement of their fellow citizens. The truest way we can honor Dr. King today is to recommit ourselves to our values and unite to tackle the pressing issues of our time including improving our education system, reforming our criminal justice system, embracing equality, and creating a pathway to prosperity for all Americans.”
