Washington, DC – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today introduced an amendment to improve access to care for veterans across the United States. The amendment provides funding to hire more doctors, nurses, social workers, and mental health professionals for facilities that serve our veterans like the one being constructed in Aurora. It will also help improve VA medical facilities that need upgrades and minor construction improvements.
“In Colorado, our VA system has been plagued by long wait times. Across the state, we have a shortage of physicians, nurses, and mental health professionals, particularly in our most rural areas such as the San Luis Valley,” Bennet said. “We also know all too well in Colorado we need much more accountability within the VA and our office will continue to work to improve the horrendous bureaucracy that has plagued access to quality care. As we fight for that accountability, we owe it to the hundreds of thousands of veterans in Colorado and the 22 million across the country to provide the best care we can offer.”
