Washington, DC – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet helped secure a provision that passed the Senate today allowing the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to use existing VA funds to complete construction of the VA medical center in Aurora. The provision was included in a continuing resolution to keep the government funded. The House of Representatives must now vote on both the continuing resolution and a bill to lift the spending cap for the project, which the Senate passed last week.
“The Senate has taken the final steps to fulfill the promise of this medical facility. The VA’s mismanagement of this project from the outset was horrendous and unacceptable. The Colorado delegation will continue its efforts to hold the VA accountable and ensure the mistakes made in Denver never happen again. The House must now act to ensure the hospital will be completed for our veterans, while offering certainty to the workers on the jobsite and protecting taxpayers.”
