Denver, CO – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement on the administration’s announcement allowing families to use earlier tax information when filling out the FAFSA.

“This is an important step that follows calls from across the country to help simplify the FAFSA. It will provide important information about grants and loans earlier in the college process and substantially cut down on the burden and confusion families go through as they scramble to provide the right information into the form year after year. Now we need to make additional progress by cutting down the 108 question form to ask only necessary data.”

Bennet joined several of his colleagues in a call to President Obama to allow families to use earlier tax data on their forms. He has also introduced a ‎bill with Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) to simply the FAFSA to two questions. The bill also allows families to use data from earlier tax years on the form.
