Washington, DC – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today applauded the $211 million investment in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Sage Grouse Initiative 2.0 announced by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today. The strategy will build upon successful public and private conservation efforts made since 2010 to improve both Gunnison and Greater sage grouse habitat.

“Today’s announcement is great news for Colorado’s producers and the many communities working hard to conserve the habitat of the Sage Grouse,” Bennet said. “We hope that this strategy, which builds on the already successful conservation efforts, will help lead to a decision that a listing of the Greater sage grouse is unwarranted. Coloradans continue to lead the way with local conservation efforts that are working to protect the species.”

In May, Bennet led a group of senators in urging the Senate Appropriations Committee to include funding for USDA’s Sage Grouse Initiative.
