Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement in recognition of Earth Day:
“Earth Day serves as a reminder that each and every day we can do our part to protect our land and water and conserve our resources. As Coloradans, we know that our unique landscapes drive our economy, and we pride ourselves on preserving our public lands and natural treasures for the next generation. By supporting earth-friendly policies and industries we can not only help combat climate change, but create good-paying jobs and strengthen our local communities.”
Bennet has led efforts in congress to preserve our land and resources and support renewable energy industries. Congress recently passed his Better Buildings Act into law. The act allows tenants of commercial buildings to voluntarily reduce energy consumption and overall costs for businesses. During the Senate’s budget debate, Bennet pushed an amendment to promote national security, economic growth, and public health by prioritizing efforts to address climate change. He has led efforts to permanently reauthorize and fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund and sponsored the SAVE Act to allow federal mortgage companies to consider a home’s energy efficiency when brokering a mortgage. In addition, Bennet has led efforts in Congress to extend the wind energy PTC, fought to strengthen the conservation easement program in the 2014 Farm Bill, and led the charge to protect our treasured public lands in Colorado, like Chimney Rock, Hermosa Creek Watershed, and Browns Canyon.
