Washington, DC – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet issued the following statement on the Administration’s strategy to move forward on efforts to curb methane emissions.
“Capturing fugitive methane emissions needs to be a key component of our national strategy to clean up our air and combat climate change,” Bennet said. “Colorado was the first state in the country to crack down on this pollution, and it did so with support from both the industry and the environmental community. The Administration should follow Colorado’s lead by working with all parties to craft rules that significantly reduce fugitive methane emissions, while also providing the necessary flexibility an assurances for the regulated community.”
The Administration announced today a new goal to cut methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by 40-45 percent from 2012 levels by 2025, and a set of actions to put the U.S. on a path to achieve this ambitious goal. Click here for more information on the Administration’s strategy.
