Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today welcomed the president’s signing of an executive order to prohibit federal contractors from discriminating against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) workers.

“When Americans go to work, they should be able to do so without the fear that they can be fired because of who they are. Extending these protections to LGBT workers employed by federal contractors is a step in the right direction. We should further expand these protections to all LGBT workers because there is absolutely no place for discrimination the workplace.”

Bennet is a cosponsor of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which passed the Senate in November. The bill would provide workplace protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity.
