Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today welcomed the U.S. Forest Service’s finalized policy guidelines to promote year-round recreation at Colorado’s ski areas. The new guidelines were prompted after Congress passed a bill introduced by Senator Mark Udall and cosponsored by Bennet to help boost Colorado’s recreational and tourism economy.
“We’re glad the Forest Service is finalizing these regulations to provide certainty to Colorado’s ski areas and increase economic opportunities and job creation in our mountain communities,” Bennet said.
Bennet was a cosponsor of the Udall-led bill that allows the Forest Service to permit ski areas to host activities other than skiing. The bill would allow ski areas to permit events and activities, such as mountain biking, zip lines, and ropes courses on National Forest lands previously permitted for ski area use.
