Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today welcomed an announcement from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that Colorado victims of last year’s catastrophic floods will have more time to decide when to claim disaster losses. Individuals and businesses will now have until October 15th to decide whether to claim their losses on either their 2012 or 2013 tax returns.
“If you travel through any of the Colorado communities affected by last year’s floods, the resilience is obvious. However, there is still much work to be done to rebuild,” Bennet said. “This extension will give families and businesses more time to make the right decisions about how to deal with the losses on their taxes. It will help bring a little peace of mind to the victims as we continue to recover.”
Taxpayers who suffered uninsured or unreimbursed flood losses in the following counties are eligible for the extension: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Clear Creek, Crowley, Denver, El Paso, Fremont, Gilpin, Jefferson, Lake, Larimer, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Pueblo, Sedgwick, Washington, and Weld.
