Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet congratulated Denver resident Dana L. Niemela on being honored today as a White House “Champion of Change.” In a ceremony at the White House earlier this morning, Niemela was recognized with nine others as “Women Veteran Leader Champions of Change.”
“Dana’s ability to lead collaborative action in response to the challenges facing some of Colorado’s most vulnerable veterans is inspiring,” Bennet said. “She deserves this recognition and we are lucky to have her working for us in Colorado.”
“As a generation returns home from war, making sure we are coordinating vets resources and services at the local, state, and federal level must be one of our highest priorities. Dana is helping make that priority a reality,” Bennet added.
Niemela is the Coordinator for the Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program for the Denver Department of Human Services. In that role, she works to create a substantial supportive services network throughout the Metro Denver Region to meet the needs of Denver’s homeless veteran population.
Niemela is partnering with Bennet and other community leaders on “Colorado Serves,” a collaboration between state and federal government entities, nonprofits, and others dedicated to ensuring the best possible services for Service Members, Veterans, and their Families through increased coordination and communication.
The White House’s “Champion of Change” program recognizes individuals doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire members of their communities. For more info on the program, visit www.whitehouse.gov/champions.
