Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today formally recognized four Colorado organizations that recently received the President’s “E” award for export achievement and service with an official statement entered into the Congressional Record.

The statement was read during a recognition ceremony for the four firms – Denver-based Geotech Environmental Equipment, Frederick Export, and World Trade Center Denver and Boulder-based Lightning Eliminators – that took place at the beginning of Bennet’s workshop in Boulder, entitled “Beyond Colorado: How to Bring Your Products and Services to the Global Marketplace.”

“These innovative companies are strengthening our state’s economy, creating jobs, and paving the way for other businesses in the state interested in exporting their products and services overseas,” Bennet said. “I join the White House in honoring the contributions these companies have made to both Colorado and the country.”

On May 20 in Washington D.C., the organizations were recognized by the White House as four of 57 companies nationally to receive the President’s “E” Award.

“We’re thrilled to be recognized by the White House and Senator Bennet for our work in helping companies grow their customer base outside the U.S.,” Karen Gerwitz, President of World Trade Center Denver, said. “Senator Bennet has been a strong advocate for promoting the state and federal resources that exist for companies looking to sell their products and services overseas and it is clearly paying dividends.”

Gerwitz has been a regular panelist at Bennet’s statewide “Beyond Colorado” workshops, which are designed to help businesses looking to expand abroad. Yesterday’s workshop featured experts who provided information on state and federal resources available for expanding internationally, as well as advice on protecting intellectual property.

Bennet co-hosted yesterday’s workshop with the Boulder Chamber of Commerce, the Boulder Small Business Development Center, HUB Boulder, the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado Boulder, and the Colorado Bar Association Intellectual Property Section.

Other workshops have been held in Colorado Springs, Denver, Fort Collins, Grand Junction, and Pueblo and future workshops are planned for Durango and the Central Mountains Region.

Last year, Colorado exports set a record high, increasing by more than 10 percent and growing to $8.1 billion.
