Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today released the following statement in celebration of Earth Day.

“One of the reasons Colorado is such a special place is that we have a proud history of working together to protect our air, land, water, and wildlife. It is because of this conservation legacy that we are able to enjoy our state’s abundant natural beauty and incredible opportunities to recreate on our public lands and waters. Earth Day is a chance to recommit to our continual responsibility to safeguard our environment from ongoing threats – whether they be immediate, like development pressure on our rural landscapes, or long term, like the profound consequences of unaddressed climate change.”

During his time in the Senate, Bennet has pushed to improve conservation programs in the Farm Bill, worked to extend the wind production tax credit to promote investment in renewable energy technologies, and led the charge to protect our treasured public lands in Colorado, like Chimney Rock and the Hermosa Creek Watershed. Earlier this year, Bennet encouraged the relevant chairs of all the Senate committees he sits on to address climate change by holding hearings on the subject during the current session of Congress.
