Boulder, CO – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today emphasized how imperative clean energy industries and jobs are to Colorado’s economic future. He discussed the importance of the Oil Independence for a Stronger America Act for our economy, our environment and our national security at a hearing on jobs and energy sustainability hosted by the City of Boulder and Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO).
“In town halls all across Colorado, one thing everyone agrees on is the need to break our dependence on overseas oil,” said Bennet. “A national commitment to clean energy with Colorado leading the way will help create jobs, boost our economy and break our reliance on oil from the Persian Gulf.”
At the hearing on Strengthening the Economy and Protecting the Environment, A 21st Century Community Approach, Bennet discussed the need to change the conversation in Washington to focus on what’s really important – growing our economy.
“We need to have more productive conversations like the one today highlighting clean energy industries where new innovation is leading to economic growth,” said Bennet. “A robust clean energy economy is a rare win-win-win – for our economy, for our land, air and water, and for our national security.”
Earlier this year, Bennet joined Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Tom Carper (D-DE) and Tom Udall (D-NM) to introduce a bill to achieve American oil independence, strengthen national security and create jobs. The Oil Independence for a Stronger America Act will set into law a goal to achieve independence from overseas oil in the next 20 years and lays out a specific plan for achieving it.
