Denver, CO – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released the following statement in observance of Memorial Day:
“There is a phrase in the military that all service members come to know: All gave some, some gave all. It is a reminder that the men and women who wear the uniform do so at great personal sacrifice. It also reminds us all of the debt we owe them and their families. This is a debt we can never fully repay, but we can and should always try.
“Each and every one of us has a responsibility to make sure a grateful nation gives honors the sacrifice of those who gave everything to protect it. In a time when so many issues threaten to divide us, it is the one thing that all of us—Republicans, Democrats and Independents—can agree on. Just as our military men and women are united by the cause of freedom, so too are we united by our responsibility to secure the comfort of those who return from war and to honor the legacy of those who, sadly, never make it home.
“In a state with such a proud military tradition, we are especially grateful for what our veterans and fallen heroes have given us. On Memorial Day, we honor the memory of those who gave all for this country, and we reaffirm our commitment to uphold our obligation to all of those who, thankfully, made it home. “
