Denver, CO – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet today is encouraging Western Slope residents and Coloradans across the state to submit their opinions on the possibility of designating the Colorado National Monument as a national park.  Senator Mark Udall is hosting a public listening session today in Grand Junction at 5:30 PM MT at Mesa State College.  The National Monument is celebrating its Centennial Anniversary in 2011.

“The Colorado National Monument is a beloved piece of our beautiful state’s natural landscape and attracts tourists from across the state and the country,” Bennet said.  “Yet a National Park status could have the potential to provide an even greater benefit to the area’s tourism economy and give national recognition to one of Colorado’s great treasures. I am interested to hear what Coloradans have to say about this idea.  The public session is one way to give Coloradans an opportunity to share their opinions and ensure that any decision is made with the full input of the community.  I look forward to the conversation and exchange of ideas.”
