Denver, CO – Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet made the following statement in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which takes place tomorrow:
“We honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his commitment to ending injustice wherever it exists. He inspired us with a message of peace, a dream of equality, and vision of a nation whose people share common hopes and common aspirations.
“In the wake of the tragic shooting in Tucson, this day serves as a much-needed reminder of Dr. King’s message. His legacy of peace and justice spur us to work together to fulfill our promise to leave behind more opportunity to the next generation.
“In these difficult times, we garner strength from the words of Dr. King, who said, ‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.’ And we remain committed to Dr. King’s vision for peace, for equality, and for a future where our kids and grandkids thrive.”
