Washington, DC – Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, applauded the cost-of-living adjustment for compensation payments to disabled veterans and their survivors, which passed the Senate yesterday.

“Our veterans have served our country honorably, and they have our endless gratitude for their dedication and sacrifices,” said Bennet.  “While families are struggling through the worst recession since the Great Depression, we need to make sure we deliver on our commitment to those who have dedicated their lives to protecting us.  This cost-of-living increase will allow our veterans injured in the line of duty and their families to keep up with rising costs during tough times and enable them to live independent civilian lives.”

The increase would take effect on December 1, 2010.  The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that it will provide disability compensation to more than 3 million veterans with service-connected disabilities in the current fiscal year

The bill passed the House earlier this year, and it will now be sent to President Obama to be signed into law.
