Washington, D.C. –Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado released the following statement after the Senate voted to approve a long-term extension of unemployment benefits:

“For weeks, a minority of Senators put up partisan roadblocks to deny over 36,000 jobless Coloradans the help they need to get by in this savage economy,” said Bennet. “But now, relief is finally on the way.”

“While extending unemployment benefits is an important step in the right direction, we have to do more to help our economy recover and put Americans back to work.   Our recovery depends on the ability of small businesses and entrepreneurs to access the lending they need to start up, grow and hire new workers, which is why the Senate needs to pass a new small business jobs bill without delay.”

The Senate has begun consideration of the Small Business and Jobs Credit Act. Bennet has introduced amendments to help small businesses access lending, create new jobs and keep our economy on the road to recovery.
