Washington, DC – Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, today released the following statement applauding the Senate’s overwhelmingly bipartisan passage of a bill to fund our troops during a time of war.
“In my short time here I have learned that Washington certainly has its problems, and there is great need for reform. But last night the Senate moved past the partisan squabbling and political bickering to pass a bill that funds our troops during war time,” said Bennet. “As we approach Memorial Day, and are reminded of the sacrifices our men and women in the armed forces make, it is good to know that we’re able to join together—Democrats and Republicans—to make sure we are giving our troops the resources they need to protect our nation.”
The Supplemental Appropriations Act passed by a vote of 67 to 28. It included funding for the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and for disability compensation for veterans suffering from diseases associated with Agent Orange. It also included funding for humanitarian efforts in Haiti to help with the recovery from the earthquake earlier this year.
