Washington, D.C.-Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, was presented the 2009 Golden Triangle Award by the National Farmers Union, the organizations highest legislative honor, for demonstrating leadership on issues relevant to America’s family farmers, ranchers and rural communities.

“Colorado’s ag producers break their backs every day to provide our country with a stable supply of food, fiber and fuel – it’s only fair they have someone in Washington working just as hard on their behalf,” said Bennet. “My first request as a Senator was a seat on the Senate Agriculture Committee so that I could play that role and ensure Colorado’s farmers and ranchers have the support they need. This award is a tremendous honor, and I look forward to keeping up the fight for Colorado’s farmers, ranchers and rural communities.”

“National Farmers Union is pleased to present Senator Bennet with our Golden Triangle Award. Senator Bennet has demonstrated a commitment to developing constructive solutions to address the challenges facing those in rural America while also looking for creative opportunities for the future,” NFU President Roger Johnson said.

Bennet was selected for his leadership on a variety of issues, including: his commitment to Colorado’s family farmers and ranchers, dedication to rural communities, support for increasing the use and production of renewable fuels, leadership on efforts to increase transparency and oversight of commodity markets and support for increasing competition in the marketplace.

The Golden Triangle Award is based on NFU’s symbol-a triangle with “legislation” and “cooperation” forming the sides and “education” the base. The Golden Triangle Award has been presented annually since 1988.
