Washington, DC – Today, United States Senators Mark Udall and Michael Bennet announced that Peaks Vista Community Health Centers in Colorado Springs will receive $1.3 million dollars in new grant funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The funding, which is being distributed by the Health and Human Services (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration, will aid an estimated 5,240 patients and create a projected 40 new, good-paying health care jobs.
“The rapid stimulative effect of the economic recovery package President Obama signed into law less than two weeks ago is now being realized,” said Senator Udall. “We must now work together to make sure we get credit flowing to businesses and consumers again, address the foreclosure crisis, and pass comprehensive energy legislation that will bring more jobs to Colorado and grow Colorado’s role in the new energy economy. These are issues we will be taking up in the Senate soon, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle, bridging divides to find common ground, and passing legislation to get this country moving in the right direction again.”
“These dollars will immediately help to create new, good-paying jobs and make health care more affordable and more accessible for people struggling in this economy,” said Senator Bennet. “Peaks Vista has a long and proven record of providing quality, affordable care to uninsured and underinsured families in the Pikes Peak region. This new infusion of federal dollars will allow them to build on that record by expanding and enhancing their operations and creating a number of new, good-paying jobs in the process.”
The grant funding for Peaks Vista Community Health Centers is part of the first set of grants announced today under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which President Obama signed into law earlier this month in Denver.
The grants, which total $155 million and are administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), are expected to create 5,500 jobs at 126 health centers across the country.
